Lisa Fulton Art - Mixed Media Artist
“Painting chose me late in life. In the fall of 2018, I was out in the beautiful Arizona dessert on holiday. Trying to shake a deep blue fog that was hanging over me I was compelled to draw in a notebook with a sharpie. I drew faces, figures, and shapes. I had never drawn nor painted before. I was a writer, that had always been my creative expression. When I returned from that trip I bought acrylic paint, canvas, brushes and began painting.
My inspiration is you. The diversity and the commonality of us all. I find ideas in my multi-cultural and ethnic family, my mixed community, my religious friends and travels. I am moved by goodness, kindness, truth, and compassion. My mantra is “trust your gift”! When I started down this journey, I told myself, “I am doing this with all my heart, no expectations or reservations”. And that is how I have traveled that past three years painting just under 800 works of art.
I use a lot of color and texture because it evokes emotion and movement that can tell a story or jog a memory.
I like to mix paper, ink, glitter and stamping into my work. Many of my pieces have symbols or hidden meanings whether it be to an historical event, a trivial reference or a note to my children. My biggest inspiration once told me, ‘You have to catch up to yourself to be who you were meant to be’.
